DENNIS M. POWERS-Supervisor

Dennis Powers, first elected Elma Town Councilman in 1999, and re-elected in 2003 and 2007, is 33 year resident of Elma where he resides with his wife Jackie. They have two children, Dean and Leigh, who have been beneficiaries of our great community and the opportunities they have been afforded.
Dennis graduated from the University of Buffalo with a bachelor's degree in accounting/finance and has held positions as a Senior Accountant, Controller, Treasurer and Financial Advisor at privately owned corporations. His management experience, together with his accounting/finance background, has enabled him to bring a balanced approach to Town Board Business.
As an elected official, Dennis is enthusiastic about our town and has brought innovative ideas, fiscal responsibility and leadership qualities to our town government these past twelve years. He has served as Elma's Delegate to the NYS Association of Towns and also the NYS Association of Towns Resolutions Committee. He is currently chairman of the Subdivision & Highways, and Finance & Audit committees. His commitment to our community, and youth in particular, is evidenced by his service on various youth recreation committees for the EMW Boys & Girls Club, EMW baseball / football and Iroquois athletics. He is also a very active member of St Vincent DePaul R.C. Church.
His goals are to manage the community's resources, control residential and commercial growth focusing on the availability of town and school district services, and to control tax rates while preserving Elma's heritage. Dennis has served directly in several town initiatives i.e. Smart Growth, Conservation Board to help preserve green space, the New Town Hall, Senior Citizen expansion, NYS Police Satellite Office, recycling to help preserve our environment, consolidated Tax Receiver duties and maintained the tradition of General Town Tax.
Dennis believes the entire community deserves to be heard and kept informed of town issues. To this end he intends to be a good listener and is committed to the preservation of Elma's values and making town government accountable and responsive to the needs of Elma's residents.
